This is an editor's April 16 2010 response to the recent posting: "Whats happening?" by bstolten.
--A lot of concern has been raised about planting of trout in the light of a recent environmental controversy and resulting legal action regarding the endangered Willow Flycatcher. It seems that this bird may compete for some of the same foods as trout. It should be borne in mind, however, that this recent issue should have little or no effect on this season's trout opener, because many fish have recently been planted. Also, any limitations to be imposed are still unclear, so there is no reason for immediate panic. -ed.
"Whats going on with the stocking of the loop, I only see Grant lake on the list for the loop. How is this going to effect the opener?" --bstolten.
--Many fish were stocked this fall, as has been the practice in the past. There are plenty of fish: a larger consideration may prove to be the abundance of remaining ice. Stocking can only be performed as the ice permits. The lakes are progressively thawing, June and Gull Lakes have a sections open water near the docks as of this writing, with the season kickoff in eleven more days. In the DFG stocking list, it should be noted that creeks as well as lakes are stocked by DFG, and Rush Creek is also on the list. Keep in mind that there is supplemental stocking of the "Alpers Trout" in cooperation with Mono County. It should be a really fun opener.

Looking at Gull lake cam and it looked like a few boats out today. They must have stock Gull today?
How has the lake fishing been?
We caught two five pounders and several 1.5 to 2 pound fish at Silver Lake, Gull and June lake. Try the benches at Gull, the beach at Silver, and the Boulder Lodge dock, if you're staying there..all on power bait.
Does anyone have an update on the condition of the lakes up there?
