Bear sighting at 3 P.M., Friday, August 19 I have been trailer camping for three weeks at Golden Pine RV. We have had a bear (or two) cruise through making noise every few nights. One night he went for the plastic recycle bin as there was a styrofoam container with spaghetti sauce; several other nights it was the same Coleman cooler full of food, with a jar of Vicks on the top to "mask the smell". Another night it was the international visitors who cooked chicken in disposable aluminum tins on the grill and left everything out because they were not informed that they were in bear country. The bear just broke into a truck that is parked here for months every summer. Don't know what he found but I think it was more than a stack of forwarded mail.
So today I am walking back from Gull Lake near the "Swiss house" (Alderman/Granite) at 3 P.M. and here comes the most beautiful big cinammon/golden colored bear running across the vacant lot up the road to the June Lake RV Park. The big huskies who are chained outside the grey house towards June Lake were going ballistic.
It happened so fast that I wasn't afraid and my dogs did not react. I was reaching for my camera but the bear was out of my sight in a matter of seconds. I understand that he slowed down while near the Bear's Den in June Lake RV Park. I've seen lots of scat back there and 'grass beds' and wonder if he hangs out back there part time. Seeing him made my day. He is so beautiful. I just hope he doesn't become a nuisance that he is put down. I heard that two other bears met an early demise for similar "bad" behavior. I'm of a mind set that we should put down the humans who feed them and not the bears. Hoping to learn more about this beautiful creature & his habits.
