Blanco, who hails from Rancho Cucamonga, CA, was using red salmon egg Power Bait.
According to Blanco, it took over a half hour to bring the lunker in on his 4-lb test line with a 2-lb leader. He was fishing a bit east of the Marina area of June Lake. The weather was cold, below 20 Fahrenheit, with light winds. Plans are to have the trophy displayed at the June Lake Marina.

WOW! don't we all dream of hooking up with something like that......So does anyone have updates on their recent fishing experiences on the Loop or nearby? Is water level up @ Grant this year? Anyone try Parker Lake recently? We'll be up there Friday for a week - plan to hit a number of places, and will provide an update afterwards...... How's fishin' folks??
My son and I just got back from a week at the loop. We caught and released over 400 trout. We fished on Gull and Silver.
We used orange power worms and salmon peach and yellow garlic power bait. We caught a 2.5lb brown trout and a
4lb, 4.5lb, & a 5lb rainbow trout. My son got spooled at Gull, I have no idea how big it was. There was no chance to stop it.
It is so beautiful up there. I can't wait until next year.
Spent week 7/23-7/30 on Loop @ Interlaken - caught fish on all lakes mostly shore fishing. Fished June on pontoon 1 afternoon at boulders opposite marina - HOT bite, lost count after ~25..Fished Grant early near channel for limit & met a rattlesnake too! Glad to see water level is way up this year compared to recent....Fished Silver several times - once early, lost an Alpers trying to land on rocks by beach (wah!) but got a fat 17" bow later, both on Chunky cheese/power worm combo - ; got 4 on gold/red TB another afternoon - ; got a limit from beach one day during gale force winds (they'll still bite!) Hit lower Twin in Mammoth 1 afternoon for 10 fish on garlic & Sierra Gold. (Mary, George, & Mamie all were very busy/crowded - low pressue @ Twin) Got a few from Gull Lake park 1 afternoon; fished off dock at West end last morning 6:00 to 8:00 & got 11 fish, mostly on garlic PB. Great fishing - great weather - another awesome stay on the Loop. Can't wait to get back....
Wow -- that really is a once in a lifetime fish, probably. Given it's size and age, I probably would have taken pics and released it. (but I know everyone doesn't think like me !!!). June Lake Loop is the best and June Lake has the BEST beach by far for some fun swimming !!!!!
I hope there is some fish left in the loop. We are coming up at the end of the week.
Does anyone out there have a great way to freeze the trout you catch. For years, my husband and I have been freezing ours in double plastic wrap and then double butchers paper and we seal them really really well. It always worked good, but the past 3 years we've noticed when we defrost the fish they are extremely "fishy" and taste too strong to eat. I can't figure out why, or what has changed. Maybe there's a better method ????? Any comments would be much appreciated.
Best to all !!!!
We always clean and seal them up in a seal-a-meal bag and freeze them the same day we catch them. I would imagine any vacuum sealer would work. We usually put 2-4 fish in a bag depending on their size. For dinner tonight I thawed and fried 3 trout we caught in Grant dated 10/22/10. They tasted great!
Thank you for your advice -- we always freeze them the same day, however we don't have our vaccum sealer with us on our trips. I think we may start bringing it !! Thanks again !!
Its time for the snow to go and for the fishing to begin. Lets hope everyone has a great fishing season (2011).
Does anyone have an update on the lakes? Are they going to be ready for the opener? I look at the gull lake cam and it doesn't look good. Anybody have any info?
I hope to be coming up to June soon. It looks like Gull is starting to clear. Do any locals follow this board?
